Nigel Munson Earns Third Straight ECC Player of the Week Honor; Fifth of the Season
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Senior Nigel Munson of the University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team earned his third consecutive East Coast Conference men's basketball player of the week honor for his performance during the week ending February 19th, 2012.
Munson (Washington, DC – DeMatha HS) led the Firebirds to two dominant victories last week at Mercy and home versus Bridgeport. He registered 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per-game and shot 53.3 percent from the field (42.9 percent from three-point range). Against Mercy, he recorded 21 points, four rebounds and six assists to help UDC win by the lopsided score of 111-68. Then, he nearly recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists as the Firebirds evened the season series with Bridgeport with an 89-68 victory.
This is Munson's third straight player of the week honor and his fifth of the season. He currently ranks 25th in the nation in scoring (20.0 ppg) and 9th in assists per-game (6.3).
District of Columbia also had two players selected to the ECC Honor Roll: senior guards Brandon Herbert (Baltimore, MD – McDonough HS) and Dishawn Bradshaw (Baltimore, MD – St. Frances Academy).
Herbert led the Firebirds in scoring on the week by pouring in 24 points in both contests. He shot a sizzling .643 (18-of-28) from the floor and .714 (10-of-14) from three-point range. He also pulled down 5.5 rebounds per-game.
Bradshaw helped the Firebirds to their perfect 2-0 week by averaging 19.5 points and 4.5 assists per-game. He was 9-of-25 from the floor and also posted a perfect free-throw percentage, knocking down all 17 attempts on the week. He has not missed a free-throw in his last 31 attempts over the last six games.
The Firebirds are back in action on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:30 p.m. as they host Molloy College for Senior Night at UDC Gym.
